When your little one has a diaper rash that you're growing discouraged over, take heart that there are simple diaper rash treatments available.
Diaper rash is a common skin problem that ranges from pink to fire-engine red on an infant's bottom and groin area. Sometimes the skin can be scaly and raised. It's generally caused by overexposure to urine or to a material that annoys your baby's skin. Fortunately, there are some simple ways to get rid of it.
If you aren't ready for the up-front cost of cloth diapers, switching to a different brand of disposable diapers as well as using diaper wipes made for sensitive skin might do the trick.
Diaper Rash Ointments
Look for organic creams that have lanolin, calendula, Vitamin E and evening primrose in them as these are natural ingredients known to help clear up rashes and provide a barrier between your baby's skin and his urine and fecal matter.
If natural creams and over the counter ointments containing zinc oxide don't clear up the problem in about a week, contact your pediatrician and ask for advice. She can determine if a food allergy is causing the irritation and can prescribe a short-term prescription cream.
Whatever treatment you choose, keep it in your diaper bag and take it with you wherever you go so that you keep yourself, and your baby sane and smiling.
